"The Churchy Mystic: A Collection of Essays on Folk Healing, Afro-Futurism, Ancestry, Time Travel, & Spiritual Activism"
paperback & e-book available fall 2022
ABOUT THE BOOK
"The most important thing to know is that the #ChurchyMystic Project is not about being 'a Christian'.
The #ChurchyMystic project is :
An exploration of "churchy" (cultural term used to describe the performance of mystical practice associated with Black charismatic church norms, gestures, dances, speech patterns, etc)
An ongoing bio-myth (connected through artifacts such as log notes, written work, spells, & artistic images) that explore how the cultural norms present in "the Black church" carry the DNA of its diaspora
A container holding ideas, explorations, (and other unknown phenomena) on the path of reclaiming the fullness of Black cultural & mystical traditions in the face of colonization
An Afrofuturistic time-traveling device that explores Gramma's (West Virginian) wit, wisdom & spirituality, Momma's Community Wellness work and how they marked, blurred, and built the fabric of mysticism for a Blackgirlchild in Philly.
The Churchy Mystic Book will be offered in collaboration with the Mystic Soul Press, August 2022 (G-d willing & the creek don’t rise).
