Kitchen Table Chat | Energy Work, Eroticism, & the Sound of Jill Scott
So Jill Scott basically just told us that she’s an energy worker…
On May 9th, the #Versuz team collaborated to bring us the Erykah Badu / Jill Scott IG Live “Battle.” Through storytelling, song, and shared laughs, Jill Scott revealed a few beautiful moments from her life with a woman of equal artistic brilliance, Ms. Erykah Badu. One tale, in particular, stood out to me as a spiritualist, churchy mystic, and practitioner of Black American folk healing. Jill Scott discussed a moment of touch-healing while on tour with Anthony Hamilton & the matrilineal thread that bought her to that moment.
There were so many subtleties to notice…
The way she would ask if “that feels good” (referring to the music)
The way that touch & sound can be so inextricably linked
The way that she channeled aural eroticism both in the singing AND the speaking moments
All of that is unpacked in this casual kitchen table chat! I hope you enjoy!
